"GP Urgent referral downgraded by hospital"

About: Royal Manchester Children's Hospital / Ear, Nose and Throat

(as a parent/guardian),

My GP sent an urgent referral to Manchester children's for my 3 year old son after suffering with repeat ear infections in both ears. He's had 4 lots of antibiotics in 2 months. I feel that this is way too many antibiotics and would like to get to the underlying reason for the infection.

I tried to book an appointment over the phone but was unsuccessful due to high demand and was told the hospital department would contact me to arrange an appointment it's been 4 weeks and still haven't received an appointment so I phoned the department just to get an idea of the waiting list only to be told that's he's been placed on a standard waiting list and could be months before he's seen.

This really seems wrong to me as myself and GP deem this problem as urgent my concerns are obviously the damage that these infections cause and the use of antibiotics. I'm concerned that my son is becoming resistant and it's really not nice to see my child suffering with this.

It's a disgrace that my son has to wait months just because one consultant at Manchester children's deems it not urgent.
