"Family given wrong information"

About: New Cross Hospital

My elderly aunt with dementia broke her hip in a fall and was admitted to New Ctoss this week. The family were told she was due to have surgery today. During the day several members of her close family called the ward and were tod she was in theatre, and would be out at 7pm . Her daughter went to the ward anyway to drop off some essential items for her mum, to find my auntie not in theatre, but lying in bed. My cousin asked staff how she had got on with the operation, and they looked under the sheet to find she hadn't had an operation. They'd been talking to my family about another patient all day. Even then, another relative phoned and was told that my aunt had had the operation. This is appalling, and gives the family no confidence at all that she will receive the right care. My confused aunt is very vulnerable and also had no family with her all day as we were told she was in theatre. The stress and anxiety caused to her daughter is unnecessary.
