"wrong info given re 24 hour pharm- child left..."

About: Norwich Community Hospital

My 6 year old Son was referred yesterday evening by 111. It was found he was suffering from tonsillitis and my partner was given a prescription and the address of a 24 hour pharmacy on riverside (it being 8pm on a Sunday). When he got to the pharmacy it was shut, it shut at 4.30pm. After a frantic Google search we drew a blank and my Son had to endure another sleepless night. My Google search revealed a parent facing a similar problem last year, and the response from NHS East was there was no need for a 24hr pharmacy in the local area, as all meds would be dispensed by the out of hours care provider. Can you please explain why we were given incorrect information and why the pencillin wasn't dispensed on the spot given the circumstances?

Hello there

Apologies for taking a couple of days to respond to your comment. Sorry to hear about your experiences and frustrating and tiring time you had trying to find what you needed for your son. I have checked with our Head of Medicines Managment about this and from what I can understand

there are some late pharmacies, but no 24hr ones. All of the opening times are kept up-to-date via NHS Choices (inc bank holiday opening).

The service you received was provided by Out of Hours GPs via 111 service, not through Norfolk Community Health and Care NHS Trust. I will ensure your message is alerted to them in order to assit in answering your query.

Kind regards
