The acute medical unit is very unhygienic. the showers and toilet are filthy and have a horrible smell to which makes you physically vomit. During my stay here I was unable to shower due to this, I requested I used a commode and raised my concerns with the duty doctor who advised that they would get the ward manager to speak with me. This did not happen. I was told by the AMU doctor I would be transferred to a ward as I needed IV fluids as if I was discharged I would become dehydrated. When transferred to the ward the doctor had not put this in the notes therefore I waited nearly 24 hours to see the ward doctor to be given IV fluids.
The lack of hygiene in AMU is likely to infect a patient rather than mend.
Also I have had a significant amount of hospital stays over the past 7 months and on the last occasion I visited A and E at 2 pm on a Monday afternoon, the A and E doctor advised that I needed to see a medical doctor. This is fine but I was left until 7am on the Tuesday morning to be informed that I would be admitted. I appreciate the hospital is busy but that is not a good enough reason to wait 17 hours to be told the plan of action.
"A and E and AMU avoid at all costs if possible"
