"Peterhead maternity fantastic"
Posted by Baby5188 (as ),
I arrived at Peterhead maternity at 11pm at night, where I was greeted by a very nice midwife (not my own one that I had dealt with for the last 9months) so initially I was little wary but soon became aquatinted. My labour was really fast considering this was my first. The midwife was great she left us to our own devices and only popped her head in to make sure everything was OK from time to time. She reminded me about my birth plan (which I was adamant that I wanted a bath on) so she ran me a bath I was in there 2 seconds and realised it wasn't for me. She then asked if it was ok to sit in the room with us which of course it was, we chatted and laughed away through my contractions and she was a good support and company to my husband also. We had our baby at 4. 45am in the most relaxing and calm environment that I could have hoped for, me, my husband and one fantastic midwife. Our baby was really small so we had to be transferred to neo natal in Aberdeen.
Neo natal staff were great, it's unfortunate to say I don't think the level of care on the postnatal ward was great and I think this is due to staffing levels, it took nearly 6 hours to get paracetamol after constant reminders and then the staff forgetting, to the point we bought our own.
The worst part - I had a bed bug and also without being too graphic someone else's blood on my sheets. I was in there for a total of 4 days and couldn't wait to leave, we sat from 9 am in the morning waiting for basic vitamins for our baby (ABIDEC) to be discharged at 6pm that evening it took 9 hours.... And there is shortages of beds we didn't need to be there.
I really hope when we have another baby that we deliver in Peterhead, the service is second to none and the staff don't make you feel that your inconveniencing them, they genuinely care and are highly professional. Thank you Peterhead maternity for putting my faith in your medical staff, I hope to deal with you again.
