"Ward202 (NPU)"

About: Royal Derby Hospital

I have just returned from a 24 h overnight stay on the above unit (ward 202) following a minor procedure.

I would like to comment on the high level of professionalism, kindness and care shown by all the staff on this ward. Not just by the nursing and care staff, but also the domestic and housekeeping staff.

I felt that patient concerns were listened to and were responded to with good grace.

In addition I felt that the staff worked together as a true team in that they appeared ready to support and help one another and in doing so created a very pleasant atmosphere on the ward - this really makes a difference as a patient. Unfortunately I have had the experience in the past of being an inpatient elsewhere where this was not the case and staff continually sought to undermine one another. A situation which led to a tense and unpleasant atmosphere for both staff and patients.

It was very kind of you to take the time to write about your experience whilst an inpatient at the Royal Derby hospital; I am pleased to hear that you had a positive experience and that you wish to express your grateful thanks to all the staff on Ward 202.

We have a staff recognition scheme called the Pride of Derby award within the Trust which recognises staff who have gone that extra mile for their patients.
