"Worst unit in England."

The unit is the worst unit in England that I have ever been to. This is my 4th admission as an inpatient and my seventh ward and this is by far the worst hospital I have been to. I got no help when needed and I was not understood nor heard. I could not believe how bad this hospital is! They discharged me due to self harming. I wouldn't of done it if I was in control and the unit was safer. But I would definitely recommend it for eating disorder patients, as they treat them much better than people with other issues. They seem to call you attention seeking for self harming and disrespect you and your own opinions! It's terrible. Do not send your daughter or son here if they need a safe environment as if they do one small thing they are likely to get discharged. It's happened to a few patients I know! Rant over.

Response from Chalkhill

Thank you for making us aware of your view.

I am sorry that you do not feel that you have had a positive experience with us. Hospital is not the right place for everybody and we do find that some people can experience the environment as stressful. Being in hospital is not always the best path for a young person.

It depends on their individual needs and difficulties.

We always consider this very carefully and make plans for appropriate community care when a person is discharged, which can be more helpful in some cases. I can assure you that everybody that comes here is listened to.

All young people that are admitted have a goal setting meeting at the beginning of their admission.

In this meeting staff, family, carers and the young person will contribute to the aims and plans for the admission.

These will be different for each person and are reviewed regularly .

If a person self harms we will discuss this with them and explore alternative coping mechanisms. There are a range of groups and individual therapies where young people can also explore these issues.

Please do contact me at Chalkhill if you would like to discuss these issues more personally. Kate Stammers, Matron.
