"Well if you don't mind waiting .......&..."

You will quite likely have a very long wait on the list & be waiting around in clinic a long while 45m - 1h.30m past your appointment time to see a consultant .

Husband was in far too much pain to wait 6 months so we paid for his 1st consultation thinking it would hurry things along, how very wrong we are , well over a year now & husband still having periods of agonising shooting / stabbing, shock like pains in neck with burning sore inflamed skin. ( This was explained clearly from 1st appointment )

New doctor at local surgery now thinks the problem is neuralgia, possibly post hepatic. I gather this can occur when Shingles ( without blisters ) isn't treated promptly........... So now app 18 months down the line we are no further on with dermatology dept as they have been ( treating ) him for Urticaria & Eczema ......

We are desperate to find something to help with the pain & help get my husband a nights sleep ! All hopes now on local G.P.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback on behalf of your husband. I have passed your detailed comments on to the dermatology team, who have responded as follows:

I am very sorry to hear about the pain your husband is suffering. It sounds as if there are several problems – the pain and a rash. The dermatology team hold a special clinic to review patients who have more complex or intractable problems and it sounds as if your husband would benefit from seeing all the consultants together at that clinic. Please contact the PALS team (01522 707071, pals@ulh.nhs.uk) with your husband’s details. They will pass these on to the dermatology team who will, in turn, arrange an appointment for your husband.

The waiting times are a problem and, although better, we know we have some way to go. Many patients travel long distances to attend the clinic, some get held up and arrive late which leads to delays particularly in the later morning. To minimise travel and inconvenience most surgical procedures are undertaken on the day of attendance. Its unpredictable and therefore it can hold up the clinic. It’s something we are trying to improve on – for example by having an dedicated doctor to undertake the surgery rather than the clinic doctor.
