Had a referral from my GP for a trans-abdominal pelvic ultrasound and the first appointment available was 7weeks away (okay overstretched system- I can understand this as our hospitals are very busy!)
However, what I couldn't understand is the treatment I received from walking through the door. Staff on reception were nice, told me to take a seat in the waiting area, I arrived about ten minutes early. But I was not seen until 45minutes after my appointment time- with a full bladder this isn't the most fun.
The nurse who called me in was nice. But the sonographer was really really unwelcoming. First thing said to me was 'are you full?' I politely asked what was meant and they were referring to my bladder. No explanation of what was happening and no conversation. Actually questioned my gps decision as to why I had been referred for an ultrasound (since my periods are regular). I mean this is fairly unprofessional and made me feel like I was wasting hospital time. When the scan was finished I was told to 'wipe up' and they went back to the computer in silence. I had to ask if that was the appointment finished, and if I can leave.
Also, turns out my GP was right to refer me as the scan came back abnormal.
As my first ever hospital visit it really wasn't the most pleasant.
