What could be improved

Our first baby was born in a delivery suite at MK General (11:57pm). The room was reasonably clean but looked like it had not been decorated in the past 5years+ (old paint, chipped plaster, old furniture etc). After delivery I was transfered to the labour ward and did not see anyone until someone said breakfast was going to be served at about 8am next day.

By that time our son had only one small feed since delivery, but no monitoring of this was kept (are patient notes too hard?) We were discharged but had not got off to a good start with feeding and had to be readmitted 4 days later as he was listless and had no energy. The staff tried inserting a tube to get some glucose in but ended up making a mess of that. They also took a blood sample to screen for infection - which got infected at the point of being taken so that was a waste of time. We were in the hospital for a week for no reason in which time the night staff were fairly useless, the plumbing made loud noises all night and the toilets eventually broke completely. When readmitted I was in a side room, out of sight out of mind it seemed. Several times I asked for a jug of water that never came, my husband had to get me a jug when he came back to visit after work, often because there were no jugs anywhere. Regarding cleaning, are your cleaners meant to enter a room and wipe everything with just one cloth? (sink, bin, surfaces)??? Because they did!!!!! A month or so later we went back for a follow up blood test - and MK General lost the blood sample meaning a trained nurse spent most of her day trying to track the sample down. All in all, when our 2nd child comes I want to steer well clear of MK General - god help all the thousands of other people that will be visiting at the rate they are building houses estates around here if things don't seriously improve.

I think I've said enough in the 1st box don't you!? Calling MK General management board - wake up and get a grip for gods sake! There was no need for me to be readmitted if staff after delivery had followed up on simple procedures - is the baby feeding? Is mum ok with feeding? etc - this is not rocket science. I attend a local breast feeding group and this is not an uncommon story. (being readmitted after not following up on feeding.)
