I just moved from Glasgow to Kelso, well I did two years ago, but being in good health, didn't get round to registering with a GP until now.
I thought I'd share my story, not that it's any big deal, but just an ordinary Joe registering for a local GP.
I phoned up and was told to come and get a registration form. My first thought is why can't this be done by e-mail? Anyway, I went roon and collected said form. Completed this and the health questionnaire (trying hard to be honest with my weekly intake of units of alcohol). I returned the form in person on the Monday and got an appt on Friday.
Initial visit was to see a Healthcare Assistant. Very nice she was too. Did an initial screen, including BP, height and weight. Then a short wait before seeing my new GP. He spent about 15 mins with me, discussing a minor health concern which I had.
I felt welcome and altogether, it was a pleasant experience, as much as these things go. The building is nice. An award-winning structure from the 1960s or '70s. Quality of reading materials was no' bad and there was a leaflet called 'Poetry in the Waiting Room', which was a nice touch.
Thank you NHS Borders. I hope not to be a frequent visitor there, but I thought I'd share my story.
