"Avoid this if you can."

My partner was admitted to this hospital on to Boughton Ward. Boughton Ward is fantastic and they have plenty of staff there who will talk to you and are very understanding – particularly one member of staff who had an excellent bedside manner. The only problem is that during my partner’s time on this ward (on 1:1 eyesight) – a member of staff was not watching my partner when they were supposed to be, which concluded in an incident. That aside, my partner moved to Chartwell ward. Chartwell ward has hardly any staff, and the ones that are there don’t really have time for the patients (excluding a HCA – who was very helpful). An incident occurred on the first night, where my partner had everything removed from the room and was left to cry without any support, not even someone to talk to for 10 minutes – they even took the mattress protector. My partner requested an item which is comforting, had it rudely chucked in to the room by a staff member followed by them closing the door again. I was very frustrated by this and spoke with the Ward Manager following my concerns, the Ward Manager assured me that the night staff would be spoken to regarding this. However, the next day my partner was feeling very unwell and asked for PRN medication to calm down, 5 hours on and there was still no sign of it – this lead to head banging concluding in blood marks on the walls. The staff weren’t aware of this until I visited in the evening which is very unacceptable – if they were doing their 15 minutes observations like they said they were, then this incident could have been avoided. My partner was discharged too early by the Doctor, I also attended the meeting and found the Doctor to be extremely rude and had a lack of care and understanding, the Dr was belittling my partner and it was very uncomfortable. Dr reduced my partner’s meds drastically and discharged without analysing for another few days, it is like they just want you in and out as quick as you can, whether or not you’re better or worse. I am totally shocked at how terrible this hospital is, it is poorly managed and is more like a prison. The staff need to get more respect for patients and get a better attitude. I will be taking this further. A word of advice for anyone potentially being admitted here – Don’t!!

Thank you for raising your concerns about your recent experiences .

KMPT acknowledge there can often be a tension between needing to ensure individual patient safety and supporting individuals in managing their own care and safety.

It would not be appropriate to discuss individual care on a public website, however KMPT would want the chance to look into this matter so we can fully understand the issues raised and make improvements where we can.

We would be grateful if you could contact Jacqui Wilson or Angela Shorter on 01622 725000 one of whom will be pleased to look into your concerns and respond to them.
