"My mother was admitted into stepping ..."

About: Stepping Hill Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

My mother was admitted into stepping hill with breathlessness and pains, after being assessed in casualty she went to Ward A14 where she spent the whole of december including Xmas. She however caught leg ulcers being a diabetic they would take longer to heal. On this ward day staff were friendly but her legs didnt get changed regularly and bandages were wet through after complaining I was told there wasnt enough trained staff, so with a trained nurse i helped change my mothers bandages, she was released on the 31st december still unable to walk as her feet were horriblely infected, one week later she was admitted into the manchester royle infimary where a week later she passed away. I am devasted with the care my mum received I have complained and nothing has been done. I must add she was also bullied by two nurses who were agency staff, still waiting to hear from the matron of this ward.

What could be improved

Less bank staff and more permanant nurses, more attention to the patients needs and not scoring points. Making sure the patient is accessed properley and all parts of the body are seen to and not ignored, maybe if the tissue viablity nurse was tol have seen my mum she might be with me now.

Anything else?

Over all the hospital needs a complete shake up and utilise on the people we need like trained nurses and look after them when we get them. Then the patient care would improve, instead of wasting money of agency staff.
