"Virus control and cross infection ..."

About: Broomfield Hospital

(as a relative),

What could be improved

Virus control and cross infection of patients by NHS staff.

My wife was admitted for 9 days at the time the hospital was closed to visitors due to the sickness bug and 3 times I had too take items to her I was ashamed by the HNS staff with the lack of infection control.

Whilst waiting outside of the ward almost all NHS staff entering or leaving the ward never cleaned hands at all. Porter taking beds/wheelchairs into and out of the ward also never used hand gel.

Even the person delivering the mail who had too visit every ward and department entered and left the ward without virus protection did the same of not using hand gel.

Yet when my wife spoke to the nursing staff she was told that not only did they know that the infection was not being brought in by visitors, she was also informed that the hospital had not even tested staff to see if or who was a carrier.

All I can say is that the trust and staff of Broomfield hospital should be ashamed.
