"Cataract surgery"

About: The Royal Victoria Infirmary

I have had cataracts removed from both eyes at the RVI.

The nursing staff were all very friendly as well as very professional.

The procedure reminded me of alien abduction movies...all I could see was a very bright light and faint shadowy shapes. There was very little discomfort both times, a little bit more the second time as it was the worst eye of the two.

Both operations were performed by the same person and they. really were excellent. They kept me informed about what was happening throughout.

My optician has said the results are in the top 10% they have seen, and that if they hadn't known they were looking for a scar on the eye they wouldn't have noticed it!

I have worn specs full time since being a young lad, but now I am a "part time" specs wearer, and the lenses have gone from being quite thick (especially for the left eye) to normal thickness.

I had the first op just before Christmas and the second just before Easter. This week I had a follow up appointment and was fully discharged.

I found all the staff involved to be very good at what they do, including the person at the help desk who told me how to get a taxi home the first time. The second time I was with a friend who waited to take me home...and I was out just over an hour after arriving! The only gripe I have about that visit is the price charged for tea and coffee !

On the whole I would have no hesitation in recommending the RVI to anyone who needs cataract surgery.
