"Very shocking treatment appalled"

About: St James's University Hospital

Currently a inpatient on ward 47 after having a abscess removed as a type one diabetic patient the staff on this ward have no knowledge of my need I have a list off things the staff have done wrong or failed to do they speak to my wife with a tone in their voice when she raises any concerns towards my health it's absolutely shocking. I've been given glucose through a IV on top off meals I've eaten which has caused my blood sugars to rise the orderly did not clean my finger before taking my bloods until my wife informed them it's best to do so as I'd eaten. A nurse pulled my IV drip and walked off even though it was twisted around my canular that is in my arm. I keep raising my concerns about my insulin routine and no one understands a thing such a shame that I've just had surgery and feel the need to discharge myself as I feel being here is causing more harm than good.

Dear Murray,

Thank you for taking the time to write to us.

I am very sorry to read that you had such a distressing time whilst in our care; the level of service that you have described is not what we wish to offer.

I have passed your comments onto the Matron for ward J47 so that they can address the issues that you have raised, however, as we have no demographic information from you we would not be able to carry out a full investigation.

It would be very beneficial for our services and for future patients if you could discuss the matters you have raised further with our Trust’s Patient Advise and Liaison Service (PALS). This would also allow us look into the matters you have raised more thoroughly and also to see if there are any lessons that we could learn from your experience.

Please call our Patient Advise and Liaison Service (PALS) on 0113 206 6261 or alternatively email patientexperience.leedsth@nhs.net
