"Reduced movements @ 26.5 weeks"

I visited the ante natal assessment unit on Tuesday 10th May as my baby's movements had been reduced for the past 16 hours or so. I did have to wait 4 hours to be checked over but this was only because the department was short staffed; when I was seen I was treated with care and compassion by the two midwives. They were both absolutely wonderful and lovely and despite it being busy I did not feel rushed; they were completely dedicated to caring for me for the half hour or so I was under their care. They were both a credit to your hospital.

Baby was fine and of course started moving as soon as I was hooked up to the monitor! I was not made to feel like I had wasted their time, in fact one midwife was quite firm when they told me "any reduced movements in future, come in and we will monitor you again". This sort of attitude could honestly save the lives of mothers and babies, when a mother to be's concerns are taken seriously (even when they prove to be unfounded) but she is encouraged to still trust her instincts in future, problems are more likely to be detected.

I can assure you that we have passed on your thoughts to Mrs Julie Hempstock, the Lead Midwife for Intra-partum Care and the staff involved. I have noted that you had to wait to be seen and apologise for this inconvenience.
