"Best labour experience i could've wanted"

I was a high risk pregnancy and recently had my little boy at Wigan. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Once i arrived at the maternity unit i met a lovely midwife who made me feel at ease, they were very friendly to me and my birthing partners. I also had care from a student midwife who was very nice. My main reason for this review is the care i had in the delivery suite. Due to being high risk i needed to be constantly monitored whilst in labour. I had a lot of problems with my back and pelvis during pregnancy which required physiotherapy, the only thing that helped was water. I begged and pleaded with my consultant for a water birth in which i was point blank refused. When in labour i physically couldn't lay down in the usual position. I mentioned to the nurse who was then caring for me that i wanted to be as mobile as possible as i found it helped more. They advised that there was now a machine that would do this and id still be constantly monitored. I also said I'd wanted a water birth but was told no, they then informed me of a machine Wigan had on loan which allows mum to be as mobile as she likes and immersed in water. I obviously had no hesitation in saying yes! Once moved to the pool room staff were changing over to the night shift. The nurse that cared for me was fantastic and i wouldnt have wished for anyone else i cannot thank them enough for helping me through that night and being there. As far as I'm aware I'm the first to try the machine in water and i cannot stress enough how much having the use of this machine meant to me. I believe it would be of great value to have one of these in wigan constantly and beneficial to everyone all round, especially mums like myself who never dreamed they'd get the birth they wanted. Im so glad i had the opportunity to use this machine and i would like to thank the staff that cared for me especially my labour midwife for being a gem. Would definitely recommend to any friend or family member needing ante natal/ pre natal care. Thankyou for making my labour experience everything i wanted and more.
