"New knees"

About: Barlborough NHS Treatment Centre

(as the patient),

I have had both knees replaced at the Barlborough NHS Treatment Centre and cannot praise the facility enough for the care, proficiency and quality it tenders. The administrative process is conducted speedily and effectively, certainly putting any fears to rest whilst offering frank commentary. After consultation with my GP , pre-assessment, admission and operation was completed within 5 to 6 weeks involving only one visit some two/three hours. During this visit, appropriate tests, X rays and consultations were conducted in a caring and effective manner.

Both knees, relating to sports injuries many years ago, are now excellent with no discomfort except minor stiffness. I can walk without any problems and enjoy the exercise. Airports are the only problem, but quickly overcome with a manual scan !!

The staff in the facility are first class throughout - theatre, nursing, physiotherapy, post operative care at home, cleaning, catering and administration cannot be faulted.

It is therefore most disappointing that I learn that the facility may close. Whilst recognising the need to follow contract procedures and perhaps review costs, I cannot stress enough that the current facility is unlikely to be bettered and should be retained in it's entirety for the benefit of the area needs. I appeal to those in authority to retain this exceptional facility.
