"More parking support"

About: East Surrey Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

Because of the amount of people leaving at the same time as us we took 20mins to get to exit. Of course by then our ticket had expired and unfortunately we could not get out. This held everyone up and one person became very irate and came to the car and said move to the side we want to get out. We were eventually able to move and pull over to the side and call the number for assistance. Once the chap arrived we were able to get back in line and he assisted us to leave. There was a very nice nurse who also made a call for us. Maybe someone needs to be at the exit at busy times to assist others whose tickets expire when queuing to leave.

Dear Tired Patient

Thank you for your comment about exiting the car park. From time of payment you have 30 minutes to exit the barrier. On some occasions recently a few patients have found that they are still queuing when the time-limit is reached.

I think the main reason for this is the number of cars that are being held at the traffic lights on the A25 which can on occasion form a queue that reaches back into the hospital car park. We are looking at various solutions to this and are very conscious that it is causing a lot of concern. It is normal practice for us to monitor the car park queue so we can open the barrier for expired tickets but your comments are a useful reminder of the importance we need to give this matter.

regards

Ian
