"Can't fault the care I've recived"

About: Wishaw General Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I have just come out of Wishaw General Hospital, I have been attending the EPAs unit there over the past 5 weeks. Right from the first visit to my whole day in hospital I can't find a single fault. I was met by Louise on a Saturday morning, I was feeling terrified and upset as this was my second miscarriage and I knew it was happening again. Louise was quick to explain what she was going to do and was so caring and understanding of my situation. Even when delivering the awful news she was sitting beside me holding my hand and being a reel comfort. At following visits for scans (I had opted to let the miscarriage happen naturally ) I found myself hoping I would have Louise and I had only met her once. After 3 further scans it was clear I was going to need surgical management as the pregnancy wasn't going to end natural. I was booked in the very next day, a relief that I didn't have too much time to think and worry. I was met by a lady called Maureen, again I can't praise her enough. She was working alone this morning dealing with myself and a lot of other patients and apologised that some other staff were off sick and she was on her own until they could find help. This woman was amazing, took her time to explain every detail, was constantly making sure I was ok and to say she was run off her feet was an understatement. I was visited by the theatre team one by one as they explained their role and what was going to happen to me there, again superb treatment from the medical professionals. In recovery the ladies there were all lovely, chatting away and taking real good care of me. On return to the ward, Maureen was still there and met me asking how I was how did I get on, still taking time for me while still run of her feet. Now another lady called Christine had come to help and she was just lovely, brought me tea and toast, helped me to the toilet and had a wee chat to me just about the whole situation making sure I was comfortable and feeling ok. At discharge time I had yet another nurse deal with me, she was extremely keen to explain my next steps, what to look out for, how to go about my recovery and most importantly exactly what to do and who to contact if the need arises. Her name was Annette and yet again I have only praise. What I am trying to say is, you read so many negative comments in the press about hospital treatment but I must be clear I cannot praise the people who dealt with me enough. I counted 21 different medical professionals dealt with me and have the upmost praise for each and every one of them, they are a credit to our NHS, and I wish I could thank them all in a personal basis.

Hello Julie,

On behalf of the full Women’s Services team, I would also like to thank you too. I really appreciate the gratitude you have expressed to us regarding the care, support and advice you received not just at your recent inpatient stay but throughout the past 5 weeks. This heartfelt thank you from you will mean so much to our EPAS team, medical colleagues and theatre team. It is especially received as we appreciate how difficult and upsetting a time this will have been for you and still you have taken the time to thank us and feedback what impact the care provided from our staff in NHS Lanarkshire has meant to you.

You give a special mention to some of our Midwives, Louise and Annette, Maureen and Christine our Clinical Support Worker, they will all be very touched by this and all care and will be proud that you feel they helped you throughout this sad time.

You also highlighted that all too often there is negative press regarding hospital treatment, we do not always get everything right all of the time, however we always strive to learn from feedback and provide safe, person centred care, therefore by posting on patient opinion you will have helped to highlight the dedication of our staff to provide this level of care at every contact.

I know you will have contact details of support from our team available to you; I wish you well and you are in our thoughts and will thank everyone on your behalf.

Take care
