The staff of the ward work very hard but they could do with more nurses as they were spread too thinly.

Parents make use of the food trolley and buy your own sandwiches. The food in the kitchen is for the children. Too many adults taking children's food meaning there's was reduced food for the children. This went on when the staff weren't around. There's so many food facilities around and fridges for the parents there's really no excuse for this behaviour, if your desperate ask then at least the staff know where the food is going.

We arrived without anything and struggled as there are very little facilities for teenagers, ie toothbrush shower gel shampoo entertainment to pass the time. A tiny sample packet of baby bath was all the nurse could offer. Come on LRI you could do a little bit more here for older children.

Of course you don't really want to be in hospital but the staff did everything they could to make our stay as pleasant as possible. I just think the LRI could give those staff better tools to make the stay for older ones even better.

Dear reviewer, thank you for taking the time to leave a review for Children’s & Adolescent Services at the LRI.

Your comments with regards to the catering situation will be forwarded to the teams involved.

Unfortunately we are not in a position to ‘police’ kitchens although maybe clearer signage, as to who the food is for, can be made clearer or larger for families to notice.

Appreciating that your visit was unscheduled, we appreciate that you did not have the necessary toiletries. We do stock a small amount of toiletries for these situations which include toothbrush, toothpaste and shampoo and apologise we did not meet your needs on this occasion.

There is a shop in the Reception area of the LRI which does sell all basic supplies, magazines etc which I hope you found. The wards information for families about the facilities available to them has recently been updated and is available at every bedspace. With regards to entertainment for teenagers, we have play specialists on all our wards who support children and young people while they are in hospital both in general things to do and in preparing patients for procedures. I am sorry to hear you felt there was not enough for young people during your stay. I am pleased to note however that you felt the staff did everything they could to make your stay as pleasant as possible. We hope that your son/daughter is recovering well.
