"Loss of scan results"

About: Southmead Hospital

After having one appointment cancelled at very late notice I was given another two weeks later. Bearing in mind that my GP sent me to the Pain Clinic as an emergency and I had already had a CT scan at the RUH which looked as a lay person as being quite serious. I was told that my scan had been sent to Southmead and my doctor had the report only. After waiting over one hour I saw the consultant who did not know why I was there, thought it was to do with my spinal nerve stimulator. When I explained that I have been in excrutiating pain since January in my leg that is not affected by the stimulator and also across my rear so I cannot even sit down comfortably and living a life which involves laying on the bed with a very hot water bottle to try and alleviate the pain for many hours and taking too many pain killers which do not seem to help, the neurosurgeon who was with the doctor showed interest. I showed them the scan report but they need to see the actual scan which they have not received. I have been promised a tel call !

Dear Ms Taylor – I was sorry to read of your poor experience under the Southmead Pain Management Service. Regrettably, I do not have enough information to positively identify you and then to assist in escalating your care pathway. If you could contact me via Complaints@nbt.bhs.uk and provide your hospital number, or date of birth and address, I will do what I can to assist. In the meantime I have passed on your comments to the Pain Team who may be in a position to identify you from the information contained in your post and ensure the promised telephone call is made, if this has not already occurred.

I hope that when you are contacted the Pain Team can offer you some strategies for improving your comfort and relieving your distressing symptoms.

Kind Regards – Steve Sykes

Advice and Complaints Team.
