"Treatment for breast cancer and tumour parathyroid"

About: Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust

I was diagnosed with carcinoma of the breast, after i discovered the lump in December 2013. In the same month the surgeon performed a lumpectomy, I later needed to have a further operation to clear the margins, at this point it was discovered that I was HER2 positive. I went on to have chemotherapy and later Herceptin and a mastectomy. During my chemo it was discovered that I had a parathyroid tumour and this was removed by a dr. In relation to all of the above procedures I experienced:

Exceptional empathy and care from the surgeon who supported me through my diagnosis, listened to my wishes and feelings. I felt very understood by them and they did a fabulous job when performing my mastectomy, this made the whole thing bearable. The oncology nurse was also very supportive. I found the anaesthetic department excellent. They listened to my preferences and as a result, on the second and subsequent operations I did not experience any sickness or headache and recovered very quickly from my surgery. The doctor did a great job in removing my parathyroid tumour, and it is to the credit of the whole team that this problem was detected and addressed in a very timely way. My experience of the staff in the chemo suite was also very good. They were friendly and flexible. I was very impressed with the RUH and the staff in the departments that dealt with me, but my special thanks is to the surgeon, who is amazing!!! and so modest with it; a truly caring person. They referred me to Southmead for my reconstruction and my journey is now almost over. Thanks to the whole team and the wonderful NHS!
