We took our 4 year old Daughter to the MIU on advise from NHS 111 as she had been Vomitting for 48 hours with a temp of above 39.

There were no Doctors on duty and the unit was being run by a nurse practitioner.

The usual checks were done, ears, throat, chest and urine. The Nurse gave our Daughter Calpol and Nurofen and were told to wait 30 mins to see if her temp reduced.

The reason our Daughter was so unwell was put down to a UTI which I questioned as she exhibited no signs of UTI, no increase in urinating and no pain. We were given Trimethoprim and hoped that it would improve the situation.

With no improvement but deterioration by Monday We took her to our GP.

We were told to take Our Daughter to the RUH immediately as the Doctor was very concerned with her condition.

After being admitted and tests carried out we were shocked to learn our Daughter had Pneumonia and needed IV antibiotics and fluids.

We spent 4 days in Hospital and discharged with a further 7 days of antibiotics,she is still currently off school.

I have serious reservations about the treatment our Daughter received whilst at Frome. The nurse was clearly under pressure to see as many people as possible and was running between rooms and patients.

The diagnosis was obviously wrong and if I hadn't of taken her to see a Doctor when I did I do not know what the outcome would have been.

For Frome to be the only available out of hours service in Somerset is not acceptable.

I would advise anybody to go direct to the RUH if you have major concerns where they have the doctors and facilities to investigate the problem fully.

I will not go back to Frome again.

May I start by thanking you for bringing this to our attention. I was very sorry to read your account of your recent visit to one of our minor injury units. I feel that your visit to Frome really needs to be investigated as a formal complaint, and in order for the Complaints manager to do this I will need some further details from you.
