"Completely Unnaceptable."

My grandfather Died on 28th February 2016.

Some underlying problems in my grandfathers care.

1. He was not on the care he was supposed to have. He was supposed to have a one on one care arrangement and received it only on one day when we complained and a bank staff nurse was called it. On the weekends I counted at least 16 other patients and only 3 nurses working on the ward.

2. The bank staff nurse was disinterested in the job they were there to do. At times letting my Nan sort the situation instead of doing it themself.

3. You relied on my Nan to work too hard in his care in your hospital, which made the time even more stressful for her and the family.

4. His wee pots kept being taken away and not replaced. Which in turn kept making him wee himself, even though he was capable of catching the incident beforehand the majority of the time. We even had to keep requesting them and leaving them for him whenever we left just to increase the chances he had one over night.

5. You locked his inhalers for asthma away in a cupboard. A man who had suffered from it for over 40 years and needed them on a daily basis. On several occasion we arrived at the hospital and he was short of breath complaining he couldn't breathe.

6. His water bottle with a control flow lid kept being thrown away, even though we asked it not to be and even wrote on the bottle do not throw away. This was then replaced by a cup and jug which couldn't be used due to the fact he could barely sit up.

7. He was on a geriatric ward where he was not cared for like a double cancer patient, but someone who was just another old person in for routine care. It was no place for a man to see out the last of his days.

8. He had, on several occasions, fallen over and we were not informed thus. Only when we found the bruises and enquired where we then told of the situation.

9. On one occasion after his wee bottles were taken, he asked me to get him a new one when I arrived. On approaching a nurse in the ward to get him one, they told me they couldn't help because they didn't work on that ward. He then was unable to hold it any longer and he weed himself. It then took them over 20 minutes to come and rectify the problem.

10. On confronting the nurse about the previous point as to why he wasn't receiving the care he was supposed to they said they had been looking after someone else at that point. Of which I can understand if you're not going to put on the staff required. The level of care in the ward was outrageous on the weekend that he died. But what really upset me was that the nurse's end argument was, they washed him that morning and what was my problem, he was being cared for. How dare you as an organisation ask me what my problem is when you are not providing the care you are supposed to. As well as then when I was complaining about the issues I had, a gentlemen at the nurses desk was complaining about the very same issues about his relative.
