"Horrendous Exoerience!"

I went into triage at 1:15am in active labour. However none of the midwives/doctor seemed to realise this. I was only 35 weeks and 4 days and they at the very least figured out that my waters had broken. They hooked me up to a machine to see what was happening but no-one seemed to check the results. When I asked for pain relief I was told I was only having mild contractions and they organised for me to go to another ward. Meanwhile my contractions were getting worse and worse, I was screaming in pain and my husband was panicking. During this time we were just being ignored, and I was dismissed as some over dramatic first time mum. If they were busy I could understand, but there was only one other woman there. I was starting to vomit by this point and my husband went to find someone to get something for me to vomit into, and he was given something, I then needed another box to vomit into and he was treated like a nuisance and told that there were a load of sick boxes in the room under the trolley (they couldn't even be bothered to show him where).

When a member of staff finally came down to take me to the ward, they mentioned how I seemed to be in distress, by which point I was checked and they realised I was fully dilated. I ended up with a traumatic forceps birth with my legs in stirrups. I still feel guilty that after the birth of my son I actually wished I was dead, and I cry every time I think of it The whole thing reminded me of the torture horror movie 'Hostel'. I genuinely felt that I would have been safer at home with my husband helping me to deliver. I will never ever choose this hospital again. The staff are incompetent and rude and even though their full time job is helping pregnant women deliver, they can't even figure out when a woman is in labour, and ignore you when you tell them you are.

I am really sorry to hear about your experience and your sense of guilt.

I hope you son is doing well.

The problems you describe are not what we hear commonly about our maternity service, and I certainly disagree that our staff are incompetent.
