I had my blood taken at pontefract hospital (sent by the pain clinic there), although I only waited a short while, the procedure is very curt. I was asked to sit down, confirm name, address, date of birth. The member of staff then proceeded to swab my arm and put the needle in to my arm to draw only one vial of blood.
Usually needles do not bother nor hurt me when having blood taken, this member of staff was not very careful, the needle hurt me and made me jump when it punctured my skin.
Once home, after the specified length of time I removed the cotton wool and tape and noticed that I was bruising. When I got up this morning, my arm looks horrendous, I have blue, red, purple, green, bruise about 3 inch by 2 inch where the blood was taken.
I think that more care should be taken when doing such procedures and possible refresher training every year or so.
Luckily I am not scared of needles but I understand why people are with this in mind.
