"Shortage of nurses"

About: Tameside General Hospital

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

This story has been posted by Healthwatch Tameside on behalf of a member of the public. We have their details and will forward any comments to them. They said…

My concern is that while staying in Tameside Hospital I was disgusted that a ward with 27 people is being looked after by 2/3 nurses. These nurses were run ragged, busy all the time, no time for breaks, etc. and people wonder why the NHS is as bad as it is. Management is the problem, simple as that. This all starts from the core being (management). I take my hat off to all nurses/doctors etc. as I have seen what they have to do for myself with my own eyes (terrible).

PALS were a waste of time – not interested.

We are sorry that the complainant has had cause to raise concerns through Healthwatch and that the Pals and Complaints team were not able to assist with this enquiry.

We plan to staff wards to agreed staffing levels in line with National Guidance. We assess and review these daily to ensure available staff are allocated to manage patient needs and provide appropriate care.

If the patient would like to contact the Pals and Complaints team on 0161 922 4466 or email palsandcomplaints@tgh.nhs.uk with the specific details we will investigate.
