"Surgical Assessment Unit"

About: Doncaster Royal Infirmary

We had cause to ring the Out of Hours service on the morning of 10th April 2016. My 75 year old mum complained of stomach pains throughout the night continuing into the morning. I rang the service who were very efficient and thorough and the Doctor spoke to SAU for them to exam her further.

Mum was treated by an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, in a compassionate and efficiently caring manner. They organised blood tests, X-rays, CT scan to try to arrive at a diagnosis.

The tests were carried out within the hour, the results gathered and then my mum was assessed later in the day by a Doctor. We were kept informed at every stage of what was happening and how things were progressing. Even organising further out-patients that were warranted whilst we were there.

All the staff from the Nurses to the Doctor, to the Healthcare Assistant, Service workers were just simply wonderful.

We could not have asked or hoped for a better service. To say we hear in the news that the NHS does not work at weekends there certainly were plenty of caring people at the hospital on that day instead of with their families!
