"Antenatal Scan complaint"

About: Russells Hall Hospital

I attended the Outpatient Obstetric department for my first 12 week scan of my baby.

The Sonographer did not introduce them-self to me and was very abrupt when telling me to lie down on the bed and lift my clothes.

This is supposed to be a joyous occasion seeing your baby for the first time, not to be made to feel like you are an inconvenience.

The sonographer definitely made me feel like I was just another number on their list and did not appear to take their time with the scan.

Please remember basic manners and introduce oneself and be polite please!

Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback about your 12 week scan. We are so sorry you feel disappointed by the care you received from our sonographer. We are committed to offering women a positive and fulfilling experience during pregnancy and birth and we must apologise if we have fallen short of those standards on this occasion.

We would expect our staff to be polite and courteous at all times and to introduce themselves by name to patients before starting any procedures. It is very disappointing to read that the sonographer undertaking your scan did not behave in this way and so must apologise for this. There is never an excuse for rude behaviour.

We have passed your comments on to the lead manager for this area who has discussed your concerns and reinforced the importance of good manners and communication with his team.
