"Reality of bed shortages"

I was coming in for exploratory day surgery. My letter said to report to ward 2A at 7.45. I arrived at 7.30 and reported to ward 2A told to take a seat in a tiny waiting room. After five minutes or so was told I was in the wrong place and was sent to Day Surgery Unit where I queued a while and I showed my letter to the receptionist who said " Sorry, you should be on ward 2A" I said that I've just come from there, they just sent me to you! The receptionist made a call and then off I went back to ward 2A. I was asked to wait in the tiny room again. I think it must have been around 9 o'clock and nobody came to see me so I went to reception to ask if I'd "dropped off their system?" and was told someone will be with me soon. A nurse came in and did BP etc gave me a gown and socks told me to get changed in the loo and the come back into the "waiting room" explaining that they had no free bed. I waited in the room in my gown with all my belongings with people coming and going, then the anesthetist came in for a word, then the Doctor, then I remained there until 9.40 I was then put on a trolley in the corridor with all my belongings and taken to theatre.

I came round in the recovery room must have been around 10.45-11.00 lovely staff in the recovery room which was just as well as I was still there at 3.45 waiting for a bed in ward 2A so I could be discharged.

I am due to come in soon for a full hysterectomy and really hoping that there'll be a bed with my name on it.

Staff were great though very apologetic and I realise not their fault but I gather it happens a lot.
