After going two weeks past my due date I was booked in for induction on Dacre ward, my waters however broke the day before so we were hoping to avoid induction altogether but after 24 hours I didn't go into spontaneous labour. After 12 hours induction on Dacre ward I was then moved to the CLU to start the drip for a second attempt at induction. I opted for an epidural before starting the drip as I had just had a whole night of strong contractions which resulted in nothing happening. After four hours on the drip I developed a temperature and was immediately put on iv antibiotics. I was very closely monitored as was my baby and after him having a raised heart rate the consultant decided if it didn't settle in the next half an hour then a c section would be advisable. Unfortunately baby had other ideas and his heart rate started to drop dramatically. I had to alert the midwife to this fact as I realised something was wrong. Luckily they called in for extra help and the alarm was raised and I was taken straight to theatre for an emergency section. I have to say the team were amazing. We knew it was an emergency but they were extremely calm, professional and reassuring. They took extremely good care of me while doing what needed to be done asap. Our baby boy was born very quickly and had to be taken to special care for antibiotics and to be monitored for the first 12 hours after that we stayed on Gloucester ward for five days while he received transitional care from neo natal care and I received antibiotics.
I am so grateful to the CLU team for the emergency care I received and the consultant. I am also so grateful for the care my son received we could not fault how thorough they all were. I would return to lister for further pregnancies as I am very confident they can handle any emergency thrown their way! Thanks again CLU!
