"Avoid this place!"

About: Princess Anne Hospital

We arrived at half past four in the afternoon. We were told that my friend - who had been in pain and passed from hospital to hospital, doctor to doctor, for days already and was exhausted - wouldn't have to wait long before a consultant wold come and talk to her. We were also told that the consultant only wanted to talk to her briefly before letting her go home.

We were placed in the 'day room' which consisted of two uncomfortable sofas and no door, therefore no privacy and told to relax. After being there half an hour and being offered no pain medication or information about what was happening, we were seen by someone who clearly had ready nothing about my friend as they asked the same questions over and over. Not only this but this person was very rude, condescending and patronising. This doctor told us that we would have to wait more because the actual consultant was held up in theatre and then left us again with a promise to bring pain meds. Another half an hour passed before i was forced to chase up the pain meds.

Eventually, after waiting in an uncomfortable room for five and a half hours, we were both utterly exhausted and my friend was in a lot of pain, we were seen by a doctor that was helpful. However, before this doctor came, the nurses that were dealing with us were shockingly rude and condescending. They barely looked at me at all, even when i asked questions, and kept questioning my friend as if she was lying. We werent checked on, we werent even offered some water to drink the entire time we were there.

I do want to say that the doctor that finally saw us at the end was extremely helpful and fast moving. They were very kind and sympathetic, too.

However, even after we were told we could go home, they messed us about even more by saying they couldnt get us there. We were assured beforehand that transport would be sorted, there and back, due to us living so far away. Eventually this was sorted but only after I lost my cool and argued that there was no way they could force us to walk home for an hour when we hadnt slept in two days, my friend was in agony when she walked and they hadnt helped her at all, in the dark rainy night.

All in all, the service was terrible. We left feeling deflated and much much worse than when we went in. Not looking forward to having to deal with them again for future treatments and if we could, we'd avoid like the plague! And definitely advise everyone else to, aswell!

I am sorry to hear of your poor experience and will ensure that your feedback is passed on to the ward concerned.

I hope that your friend is now recovering.
