Oh dear! Im not one to make a noise over a problem relating to medical, however, my experience in accident and emergency recently was not a good experience!
I attended accident and emergency one evening recently, was seen quite quickly, which was a good start!
Once doctor realised my diagnosis, they wanted to keep me in and do some tests before going up to my ward. This was around 3PM.
I was left alone in the minors dept for what seemed like 40 minutes. A porter put their head round and said they had lost me and had been looking for me for 30mins to take me down for a scan. They told me the nurses thought I was in majors cubicle as that is where the doctor wanted me to go!
I didn't say anything about this as I was too ill to care.
I came back from my scan around 4.30 and was wheeled into majors.
I was given a agency nurse to look after me, I.e take pulse, blood pressure, bloods etc.... wish they hadn't given me them, they were complaining all the time about how rushed off their feet they were.
A medic attended me around 6.30, and said that they had been waiting for me on the ward for a hour, why hadn't I been transferred up?
Apparently the agency nurse hadn't informed the porter to take me up to the ward.
At 9PM my family was waiting up on the ward for me. I was still in accident and emergency.
My family had been told that I was going up to the ward around 7PM.
Finally after 9PM, I asked this agency nurse whether I should be up on the ward yet? Their response was another tut and that as I was nagging them they them self would take me up to the ward. They put me in the wheelchair, not the bed and took me up.
After that everything settled down once on my ward.
I fully realise that down in accident and emergency they are so busy, but I was lost in a cubicle, was left in a minors cubicle for 40 minutes when I should of been in a majors cubicle, wasn't observed for approx 40 minutes, then had a sulky agency nurse who obviously wasn't happy doing a afternoon shift during the week days! Ive never complained before about this hospital, but my experience I wanted to share.
