"Some of the staff were very friendly ..."

About: Wexham Park Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

Some of the staff were very friendly and helpful

What could be improved

I was put in a mixed emergancy ward when admitted. During the night we were treated to a drama by a patient who assulted a nurse and a doctor. This patient then threatend us all ran out of the ward and into the grounds of the hospital. I was very scared and I would think that many of the older ladies in this ward were even more frightend. when first arriving I explained that I had many alergies including sticky plaster - a nurse proced to put one on me and when I refused she went to get the sister I explained to her and she put a badage on (with no gloves)! Luckly I was able to go home the next day after being told by the consultant that I would get an appointment through the post in the next couple of days for an emergancy scan! This did not come until yesterday - The specialist called me and said that an appointment had been made for today and why had I not arrived. I explained that I had not got an appointment yet. I rushed to the hospital Paying £20 for a taxi to ensure I had reached the person before he left as agreed only to find out that the consultant could not have read the paperwork at all but just signed the document. I asked why the scan was being taken of my legs when the problem was either my pancreass or gulbladder!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I then had to pay another £20 to get home during rush hour............and wait for another appointment.

Anything else?

I am very concerned about this because I previously was taken into another hospital been given a pre med and was being taken for an operation I had 10 years previously! I thought that Wexham was better! There were also cobwebs in my cubicle and I was treated to angry comments by the cleaner when I asked in front of a nurse for them to be cleaned away. The food menues were really bad and had no information about dairy, nut or any other issues highlighted. I clearly had nil by mouth up above my bed but told that I should order food just in case I change my mind! Bedding had bloodstains. I fully understand that this is a busy ward but they were moving patients around all night. A young boy was placed next to me and he had fallen through windows and lost alot of blood - his visitors would not leave at 2am when requested and were very intimdating and then his sisters came along at 3.30am and said "oh he's tired bless him" but continued to ask him questions as to how he was and even woke him twice because he didn't answer them. I finally went to sleep about 6am when shift had changed over and I expressed how much I want out of there!!! The lady in the bed opposite me had a new neighbour who really frightend her and was also very upset and scared. This really should be sorted out and that mixted wards should not be allowed no matter what!!!!! How is anyone supposed to get better when all of this is taking place and feel ok about being in hospital? I am really angry and would have to be dying before I go back into there........
