In 2015 I was pregnant and the 20 week scan spotted an anomaly. We were immediately sent to the fetal medicine team in Kirkcaldy. The doctor initially spoke to us about who we were (to help see how to discuss very difficult matters with us. )
So we had to say goodbye to our little guy and I would have to deliver him. We had a special suite in the hospital and everyone took very gentle care of us. They helped us through the delivery and we could choose how we said goodbye. Local donations gave them clothes to dress him and I made him a blanket. It was the worst day of my life, but the entire maternity team made it as easy to bear as possible.
Much later in 2015 I became pregnant again and the same team were there for us again. No explanation was needed of what had gone before. The fetal medicine team were there through all the scans till we knew that things were going fine this time. Even at the delivery the team read the notes and were both aware of the history and the birth plan we had prepared.
And finally after 9 very anxious months our little girl was real and here and fine.
Thank-you to all in the Fife maternity team for their care through both our pregnancies.
