My mum had a series of chest infections and the GP ordered a chest x ray last November. There was a phone call to her home the next day to make an appointment to discuss it and she was sent for a CT scan at Wishaw General. The scan showed an anomaly. This turned out to be cancer with lesions in both lungs. The respiratory doctors set the wheels in motion to do various biopsies along with their surgical colleagues. She had computer guided biopsies from each lung. A bronchoscopy and an endoscopy. She was cared for by the nursing staff in the Ambulatory Care Ward and Surgical Day Bed Unit during these occasions.
I have been so very impressed by the staff at Wishaw General. My mother is 78. She has other health problems but is a generally active lady. It is our observation that Dr Dagg and his team have been extremely attentive in their management of my mother's condition and advocated for her to undergo a partial lung removal at the Jubilee.
My mum had her operation at the beginning of February. They sent off samples to find out the nature of the tumour and she had her follow up last week. The waiting for results was the worst period. Dr Dagg was very responsive to any anxieties or questions during that time.
We are delighted that the surgery to remove the cancerous tumour on her left lung was successful. She will undergo regular check ups for the lesions on her right lung but so far there has been no deterioration.
There were a lot of staff involved in my mother's care and treatments. Wishaw- Dr Dagg, Dr Tan, Dr Lynas, Dr Molly Simpson and surgeon Dr McDonald. Also Dr Shenoy the radiologist. The Jubilee- Mr Klimatsidas. Mum's GP's Drs Gallagher, Lindsay and McPhail. The nursing staff at Wishaw were phenomenal. In all the areas she was in. The radiography staff too.
We are so grateful for the input each and every one contributed to mum's treatment. Thank you all so very much.
