"I was sent a letter confirming ..."

About: The Princess Royal Hospital (Telford)

(as the patient),

What I liked

I was sent a letter confirming my surgery for a procedure for an incicional hernia, of which is rather large and gotten very painful. I was requested to be on ward 12 @ 7.15am on 2 feb 2010. I was kept waiting in the patient waiting area for over 2 hours, eventually given my bed, and prepped for surgery ! I was due in theature approximately 1.45pm and was given a pre med tablet at about 1.20 (im given this as i am exceptionaly nervous about anaesthesia from a previous bad experience). This drug knocked me out, upon waking up at about 5pm i was informed my surgery had been cancelled as they had run out of time ! ! ! ! sooooooo i didnt eat a thing from 7pm the night before, until 6pm. I was informed i was put on the emergency list the next day.

3rd Feb. so far so good, Im going for surgery at approximately 1.30pm (first on the emergency list) i am again given my pre-meds to calm me down. And guess what............ u got it right, about 2.30ish I am politely informed i am being discharged, and sent home, and the doctor cannot fit me in again until MARCH. Another month of pain and discomfort.

I am given absolutely no pain relief to go home with, and not an inch of sympathy! There is certainly something wrong with the way this hospital is run. I have lost 2 days pay, and embaressingly i am to return (hopefully if my shifts can be arranged again) to tell my employer that the surgery was cancelled, but i will need more time off soon again!

I have requested i be placed into an emergency slot, as i do not know how much longer i can carry on with my discomfort. my job requires that i do some lifting of stock etc.

My position is of a temporary nature, and i have applied for permanent work within, and this makes me look very unreliable.

I want it to be known clearly, that when i do have my new date for surgery, i will not tolerate being struck off and chased away like a number ! ! HONEST feed back would be appreciated. Thank you

What could be improved

Everything, except the nursing staff ! !
