My husband is currently a patient in Digestive Diseases in the Millennium wing. The staff from the paramedics to the HCA's have been without doubt fantastic. And here we would like to mention his nurses who have been so caring and kind yet maintained their professional identity. Higher up the ranks the A&E doctor, surgical team and ward doctors have been so encouraging. But I have one concern.
We are given an option that ie. a procedure will be done to flush and clean out the site of an abscess and my husband is all ready for this but then it does not happen as the thought is that the gut is healing on it s own. Brilliant but then it does not heal and my husband is sick again. I do not understand why this cleaning out and flushing of the site is not then done. Everything is a waiting game. My husband had had to endure 3 different options of treatment and of course I have faith in the team but I feel so confused by what I am told. Surely if option A and B does not work then C is the last option and should be done immediately or am I not understanding how it all works.
This is in no way a slur on the team - as far as we are concerned they have been so kind and helpful and where would we be without their knowledge but somehow we never seem to understand what is going on. Is the treatment too conservative perhaps. If they had carried out the second keyhole when he was re admitted last Tuesday perhaps he would have been home by now - I find it frustrating that we sometimes do not understand their reasons for acting the way they do. But we thank God for their calling and commitment
