"A&E Failure"

About: Barnsley Hospital

I had a fall , on my right shoulder , being a nurse of 32yrs standing 22yrs being a practice nurse, I was pretty sure it was a tear of my rotary cuff , which is what allows the movement of the shoulder , I couldnt move it ,only backwards , and it was extremely painful.

In A&E after 30 mins, I had an x-ray ,then after another hour saw the doctor, so far so good .

The doctor said there was no fracture, watched me strggle to take my jumper off, after a small examination, said that I probably had a rotary cuff tear ,and didnt know what to do about it , would have to go away and think.!

After 15minutes came back to say to come back to fracture clinic the next day ,I said that i didnt have a fracture but the answer was "they might know what to do with it".

Asking did I have any co-codamol at home?and that

I might like to put a sling on it.

This didnt inspire me with any confidence about the treatment of my injury , I had better treatment in fracture clinic , but have had to wait 7 weeks for an MRI scan, then 2more weeks to be seen with the result. After reviewing upper arm surgeons at Barnsley, it now looks as though i,m going to have to pay for treatment, my choice but no choice!!.
