Our daughter stayed over with you for two nights at the beginning of the week for a slightly confusing and complex set of tests. She had to have two different cannulas fitted and needed a painful injection as well as a very difficult nil-by-mouth phase lasting all morning of the third and final day.
To my surprise, on the way home she said (unprompted) “I like staying at the hospital, mummy”. When asked whether she would be happy to stay another time she simply nodded enthusiastically.
For me that just said it all. So, to the day and night nursing team, the volunteers and the child support staff who provided loving care for our daughter as well as the careful and patient Doctors; all of you managed to create an environment where a 4-year old child took home nothing but a good feeling of being cared for and looked after well. She is not a particularly brave, patient or thick-skinned child, so all of this was said despite the inevitable tears and discomforts associated with ‘what needed to be done’. You have my utmost respect.
