My 94 year old grandmother is a patient in Elgar house. I wanted to take her out to break up her day. We sourced a wheelchair that was questionable in its off ward capabilities but headed for the shuttle bus with determination. The driver of the bus was a credit to the hospital. The driver helped us on the bus and advised if we took the trip again to wait outside of Elgar house and they would pick us up from there. True to their word on our return journey the driver dropped us off outside the ward saving my gran a very bumpy ride.
Had it not have been for another relative I would not have known about the shuttle bus and it's capability to take wheel chairs. To improve other patient and relative experiences it would be useful to have an information pack available so that families can maximise the quality of their visit and provide a change of scenery for their relatives if well enough to do so.
A big thank you again to the driver that was on shift the morning of the 12th March.
