My first appointment wit the Consultant lasted 5 minutes and was very rushed, once I had explained my symptoms and they diagnosed it as hiatus hernia I was then being shown to the reception to complete paperwork. I didn't have the opportunity to ask questions.
The Consultant told me that I would receive an appointment within 6 weeks, however, I did not receive one until 12 weeks later.
On 3/3 I attended the hospital to undergo a camera down the throat procedure. I was shown to a room and the nurse filled in some paperwork and left me there for 1 hour. The Consultant then came into the room and said they would spray my throat, I said that I preferred the sedative method, they said that everyone normally goes for the spray. I said that I was shocked that I was not even asked which method I preferred, they seemed very annoyed and said that I would have to wait for a bed. At this point I was feeling very nervous. In theatre I was given throat spray and a sedative, however, the Consultant did not wait for the sedative to work and I could feel the tube going down my throat. It was awful.
Years ago I underwent the same procedure in Northampton general hospital where I received excellent treatment, they gave me a sedative and waited for me to dose of, I did not feel a thing.
This hospital has a feeling of 'cattle market' about it, the waiting rooms were rammed and you could not find a car parking space. Other reviews state that nhs patients like myself are treated inferior to paying patients, I have to say that I agree.
