"Trying to get an appointment"

About: General practices in Lanarkshire

(as the patient),

Trying to make an appointment at Lanark Health centre or even talking to anyone is quite possibly one of the most stressful things ever. I'm 18 weeks pregnant and having been suffering severely with my skin. After showing my midwife she gave some advice... make a GP appointment. My heart sank because the likely hood of getting an appointment is very slim. I actually put off making an appointment for a few weeks until my skin was extremely painful and 100% worse because what's the point, I won't get through anyway. So I try and make an appointment. I call at 8am exactly.. I'm number 24 in the que, so 20mins later I'm at number 4 in the queue and then met with message of a lady saying that all medical appointments are full for the day (8. 20am) there is no further options available to even talk to anyone. Not even any advice on what do to next. So I thought I will call again even if I could speak to someone and not a automatic call system. I call again the queue is now at 47. This left me feeling rather hopeless and clueless at what I should do next.

I feel this an awful place to leave potentially vulnerable and scared adults with no hope of making it through to see a GP. This is a problem that could lead to more life threatening situations because we are put off trying to make an appointment. Problems that start small but progress into serious illness because of not being treated.

At the moment I'm still none the wiser of what to do in my situation. Call again tomorrow and not get through?

Call the nhs 24? I feel this is the wrong service to be calling as they will probably will redirect me to make a GP appointment anyway.

So I'm left with continue to suffer. It's wrong on so many levels that these are the options I feel I'm left with. In this day and age, to feel hopeless about making the first point of contact for someone to just help.
