"Visit to A&E on a quiet night 5 patients 3..."

About: Worcestershire Royal Hospital

Waiting room & toilets filthy. Chairs broken & uncomfortable.

A very quiet evening/night in A&E 5 patients (all there before me) & 3 ambulances (no blue lights).

Staff had plenty of time to stand around socially chatting (Doctors, nurses & receptionist).

At one stage the phone at the receptionist elbow was ringing for in excess of 3 minutes without being answered while they finished their social chat. Caller rang off.

Comment in the waiting room which proved by most of us to be true ' been here 3.50hrs will be seen soon to meet the target'.

Personally l was told I should be on a trolley but one was not forth coming ( l was unable to sit or stand comfortably).

However a couch was available for the full 4 hours I was waiting but this was not offered even temporarily.

Staff should have been out in the waiting room checking how patients were coping, explaining why the wait, cleaning up when necessary (it needed it, sick bowls, cans, cups, tissues etc).

We are asked not to abuse the staff but it seems ok to abuse the patients.

I felt I was not given any respect just generally ignored.

Once I had seen the doctor and It was apparent

I would need surgery I was straight up to a ward so bed shortage was not the problem.
