"Parking fine £70!"

About: Macclesfield District General Hospital

Arrive with a head injured elderly neighbour, park with a disabled badge in a disabled car park, stay with her for two hours 20minuts, pick her up later when investigations and sutures of 3" cut inserted and what to I get? A parking fine of £70!

This is a hospital where people arrive distressed and except for out patients or cold cases there is an urgency and distress factor. What sort of mentality appoints a parking charge service that willy nilly demand 70 pounds from someone who may be bereaved or dealing with appalling poverty or ill health. You should be ashamed of yourself. This is not healthcare. It is abusive exploitative business. Do I just call an ambulance next time? Shame on you. Still, being called customers probably explains the attitude. Not a bean of caring to be seen. Go sell cars.

Response from Macclesfield District General Hospital

We were very sorry to read your comments. A parking management system is in place at Macclesfield Hospital in order to help ensure the availability of spaces for visitors and motorists who fail to pay the appropriate tariff for their stay may be issued with a parking charge notice (PCN).

However, there is a thorough appeals process in place to waive Parking Charge Notices (PCNs) in appropriate circumstances, such as medical emergencies, so we would urge you to appeal straight away via the details on the notice you received.

It is also important to note that payment for parking at Macclesfield Hospital can be made any time until midnight on the day of a visit and can be done by cash, card or by phone. As a result, payment for parking should not delay bringing a patient into the Accident and Emergency Department in an emergency.

We hope your neighbour is feeling better and you were happy with the care provided by our staff. Further information about parking at Macclesfield Hospital can be found via the link below:
