"I finally got the answer i had ..."

About: Wythenshawe Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I finally got the answer i had been looking for, after over 4 years.

What could be improved

Communication between hospital staff and patients. Hospital Funding and increase operating capacity.

Anything else?

I was first seen in June approx where i had an initial assessment of a long standing pressure ulcer. I was told that there was a possibility of them operating as every other option had been exhausted, ie vac therapy twice and traditional dressings along with nutritional needs being met. As i've had the sore for such a long period of time i was informed that even if my ulcer was to heal on its own it would still need surgical intervention as the area would be very weak. My next visit was pointless to say the least, i went to find out that my consultant was on holiday and the registrar told me exactly what i had already been told but there was nothing that they could do without consulting with my consultant. I was finally told in November time that the consultant could operate but at the time there was an issue with operating space but they would put me on a waiting list, a colleagues if needs be. I hadnt heard anything in January so my partner rang the nurse in charge who said it was now in the consultants hands and to ring their secretary. By this time i had already been told that somebody from 'upstairs' had looked at my records. Up on speaking to the consultants secretary we was told that they had no record of me. I got my GP to contact the department the following week only to be told now there is a funding issue and i am not on any waiting list. I was told that i should get my operation within 12-18 weeks but had heard nothing. 18 weeks will take me to the middle of February yet i am not currently on a waiting list at all. I have a holiday booked in July on the understanding that i should have had my operation and recovery period by then as i was discharged from clinic in the November. I am disgusted that i have had to fight for something that should be a human right instead of being left waiting for something for 4 years which in fact is taking control of my life, what i have of one that is anyway. I am a wheelchair user so my mobility is limited without the aulcer
