"Sexual health clinic rude receptionist"

Having the visit the sexual health clinic for a routine appointment I was horrified to be treated so awfully by the receptionist as soon I was entered.

Walked over and said hi (no other patients waiting at desk) and the receptionist ignored me for a few mins then told me to go and stand behind the board. Finally called me over - No smile no greeting no warmth. I had come for a walk in appointment filled out forms etc and then took them back. I'd forgotten to fill out my door number - the receptionist rudely handed the form back and just said "door number" handed the form back and they said nothing.

Politely asked if they knew how long I would be waiting (as I was a walk in, I was happy to wait but an estimation, for example- walk in appointments are between 9-11)

Then the receptionist aggressively just said to me - "sit and wait your turn" like I was a dog

I was so shocked! I said it wasn't very polite and an estimation would be helpful. They they said " don't tell me how to do my job" I was so shocked and angry about how unprofessional this member of staff is!

As I walked away to take as seat the receptionist started talking about me to the rest of the staff behind the desk saying " oh I'm being started on already this morning by the patients"!!!!

I feel it is so sad that people are coming to this clinic to make positive sexual health choices and they are made to feel like the are in trouble as soon as they walk in! Attending a sexual health clinic can be quite embarrassing and this would put you off ever coming back! I was left completely in the dark in the waiting room and just made me feel so uninformed and unwelcome!

Something needs to be done about this receptionist! Sexual health is a sensitive topic and patients need to be greated with warmth, empathy and respect when they visit so they feel they have made the right choice about coming to your clinic!!!

Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust does not provide sexual health services. If you have visited the sexual health clinic at St Ann's Hospital in Haringey that service is provided by Whittington Health NHS Trust.
