"Outstanding care & compassion during a colonoscopy"

About: Victoria Hospital / Gastroenterology

(as the patient),

Due to a history of both physical trauma to the area, and chronic diarrhoea, I was dreading having a colonoscopy, although I knew I HAD to have it. I had tried, rather unsuccessfully it seems, to prepare myself & be calm, but the nursing staff immediately, intuitively and with great compassion, spotted my distress and dealt with me in an incredibly soothing, caring & practical way. I was aware how busy the day unit was and really didn't want to cause a fuss, ....but the nurse got Calum. , who was going to carry out the procedure to listen to my story and he then very caringly explained and answered all my questions The nurses continued to soothe and reassure me, without patronising me and I am truly moved by the quality of care and compassion heaped upon me during this very busy afternoon of work. I cannot praise your staff highly enough.

Dear Svetlana,

I felt very humbled when I read your story and I am grateful that you took the time to post it. I know that coming for a colonoscopy was difficult for you and I was heartened to read that our staff recognised this and made every effort to support you in a caring and compassionate way. I will gladly pass on your story to Calum and the nursing staff, who will be delighted to receive your positive feedback. I will also share your post with the wider team to ensure that we all learn from your experience.

Thanks once again for taking the time to share your story. I hope that you have recovered well.

Kind regards

Gill Ogden
